Downtown Tampa's Holiday Season Now Runs on Two Weekends

Which tree lighting did you go to last November? On Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, Water Street's Season Spectacular and Sparkman Wharf's Winter Wonder Wharf both ran on the same evening, so anyone downtown had to pick one.

This year they're three weeks apart. Water Street gets November to itself. Winter Wonder Wharf has moved into early December, and that creates a three-night run of free events from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5. A second cluster follows two weeks later, from Dec. 18 to Dec. 20. If you live downtown, planning the 2026 season mostly means guarding those two stretches.

November is Water Street's month, then the rink opens

Winter Village tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 6, for both the ice rink at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and the Winter Village Express streetcar ride. Every skating visit has to be booked ahead, either online or with on-site QR codes.

A week later, Season Spectacular lights Water Street on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. It's free and centered on 971 Water St. Water Street calls it the official lighting of the neighborhood and the start of the holiday season. It moved up from a Friday last year to a Thursday this year, and it's the only lighting downtown in the first half of November. The event page lists a Glow Lounge, a children's workshop, animated storefront windows, Santa photos and a silent disco among more than 300,000 lights.

The Straz Center fills the following weeks. Cirque du Soleil's "'Twas the Night Before…" plays Morsani Hall from Nov. 18 to Nov. 29, billed as a family holiday show. Winter Village opens on Friday, Nov. 20, and runs through Jan. 3, 2027, one day earlier at each end than last season's Nov. 21 to Jan. 4 run.

What's different at Curtis Hixon this year

Winter Village is still presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning, and it's still in Curtis Hixon Park on the Riverwalk. Adult skating is still $17. Most of the changes are in the weekly schedule:

  • Silent Disco runs every day. Last season it ran only on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. This season, headphones are available during all operating hours at the information kiosk with a valid ID, first come, first served.
  • Thursdays are College Night. College students get $2 off skating rentals from 5 to 9 p.m. Last season's Thursdays were the Lightning-themed "Thunderstruck Thursdays."
  • Saturdays and Sundays each have a regular slot. Festive Saturdays bring live performances and holiday music from 7 to 8 p.m. On select Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., Frosty, Elsa, Olaf, the Grinch and the Gingerbread Man visit.
  • Shop Small Weekend, presented by PODS, is Nov. 28 and 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. both days, with young entrepreneurs selling alongside local vendors and artists.
  • The River of Lights cruise is back. The Pirate Water Taxi leaves from Winter Village at Stop #12 for a holiday-lights run down the Hillsborough River.

A skating session lasts 75 minutes and includes skate rental. Skaters under 12 pay $15. The skating shows will happen on select nights, but the schedule hasn't been released.

December 3 to 5: three free evenings in a row

Two moves created this stretch. Water Street's Holiday Promenade moved eight days earlier, from Dec. 11, 2025, to Dec. 3, 2026. Winter Wonder Wharf moved 20 days later, from Nov. 14 to Dec. 4. Santa Fest was already set for that Saturday. All three events are free, and each one is at a different downtown venue:

  1. Thursday, Dec. 3: The Holiday Promenade on Water Street, 5 to 9 p.m. The market brings in more than 40 local makers and artisans, plus live music, falling snow and a food and drink area modeled on a traditional Christmas market, with mulled wine and hot cocoa. It's the earliest date the Promenade has had, and it now lands a week after Shop Small Weekend at Curtis Hixon.
  2. Friday, Dec. 4: Winter Wonder Wharf at Sparkman Wharf, 615 Channelside Drive, 5 to 9 p.m. The 30-foot tree is lit at 7 p.m. The evening also has snowfall on the wharf, photos with Santa in his sleigh, crafts from AR Workshop and performances inspired by The Nutcracker.
  3. Saturday, Dec. 5: Tampa's Santa Fest and Tree Lighting. The parade steps off at 1 p.m. from Morgan and Madison streets, heads west on Madison, turns north on Ashley Drive and ends at Ashley and Cass Street. Madison Street is the recommended spot to watch. Curtis Hixon hosts crafts, games and free Santa photos from 1 to 5 p.m. Seven Christmas trees are lit at 6 p.m., and a free holiday movie on the lawn follows.

The three nights move from Water Street to Sparkman Wharf to Curtis Hixon. Last year the same events were spread across four weeks. Now they fit inside one Thursday-to-Saturday stretch.

December 10 to 22: the ticketed shows and the river

Once the free events are done, the season moves into the theaters and onto the water. The Florida Orchestra's Holiday Pops plays Ferguson Hall on Dec. 10 and 11, a week earlier than last season's single Dec. 19 performance. The Straz says it added the second date by popular demand.

The rest of the calendar fits between Dec. 18 and Dec. 22:

  • Next Generation Ballet's Nutcracker plays Morsani Hall from Dec. 18 to Dec. 22 with dancers from New York City Ballet. It runs one day earlier than last year's Dec. 19 to 23 dates, and a limited number of premium seats include Clara's Christmas Party.
  • The Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is Saturday, Dec. 19, at 6:15 p.m. According to Friends of the Riverwalk, this year's route starts near Sparkman Wharf, passes through the Convention Center Basin and finishes at Armature Works. Charley Belcher is the 2026 grand marshal. Boat registration and VIP tickets haven't been announced yet. Last year's parade started near the Lighthouse off Davis Islands, and some calendars still list that start, so it makes sense to check the Riverwalk page before picking a spot to watch.
  • onbikes' 15th annual Winter Wonder Ride is also on Dec. 19. It starts at a village at Thunder Alley with a DJ, Santa photos and a Kid Zone, then heads out along Bayshore Boulevard. Ticket sales help onbikes give new bicycles to local children.
  • Trans-Siberian Orchestra brings "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" to Benchmark International Arena on Sunday, Dec. 20, with shows at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

From Friday, Dec. 18, through Sunday, Dec. 20, that's the opening of the ballet, a bike ride on Bayshore, the boat parade and an arena concert.

Of the three, the skating show dates are the most likely to change a December evening plan. The Winter Village Facebook page is the official channel for real-time updates.
